Accelerated Migration and Rebrand
Moving 7,000 Products to Shopify in Under 3 Weeks

Platform Migration Catalog Architecture Custom Theme Development Product Display Logic Third-Party Integration Express Delivery
WeGotSoccer has been one of America’s most trusted soccer retailers for over 30 years, operating six brick-and-mortar stores across Massachusetts, Florida, California, and Texas. In 2025, they joined forces with Unisport—Europe’s largest football community with 12 million followers—to launch as Unisport Soccer, a unified brand built to become the number one soccer destination in the U.S.
That rebrand needed a new digital home. The existing WeGotSoccer platform was a custom-built system that had served the business well but couldn’t support the speed, flexibility, or merchandising complexity the combined brand required. MTN Haus was brought in to execute a full platform migration to Shopify—on an aggressive timeline of under two months.
The Challenge:
A Legacy Custom Platform, a Fixed Launch Date, and a Complex Catalog
The existing WeGotSoccer platform was custom-built—functional, but rigid. Content and merchandising changes required developer involvement. Deploying updates was slow. And the system had been maintained by a small group of people who understood its internals, making it difficult to scale the team or move quickly on new initiatives.
On top of that, the catalog itself was complex. Roughly 7,000 products across footwear, apparel, equipment, and licensed jerseys—with category structures, color handling, and merchandising logic that didn’t map neatly to any standard ecommerce platform. Key priorities for MTN Haus going in:
- Preserve the full catalog structure—departments, subdepartments, color logic—without data loss
- Deliver a refreshed storefront aligned to the new Unisport Soccer brand identity
- Enable the marketing team to manage content independently, without relying on engineering
- Maintain jersey personalization—a core part of the soccer retail experience
- Minimize disruption—customers should notice the upgrade, not the transition
Why Shopify
Shopify’s flexible product model was the right fit for a catalog this complex. Variants, tags, metafields, and collections gave MTN Haus the building blocks to replicate the existing category taxonomy without building a bespoke data layer from scratch. Equally important: Shopify’s theme architecture meant the storefront could be customized to match the Unisport brand with minimal development effort—freeing the team to focus engineering hours on the custom logic that actually required it.
The platform also unlocked something the old system couldn’t: parallel workflows. Shopify’s content tools allowed the Unisport marketing team to work on content, collections, and merchandising in parallel with the MTN Haus development team—without stepping on each other. That separation was critical for hitting the timeline.
The Solution:
Structured Migration, Surgical Customization
Catalog Migration & Architecture
MTN Haus migrated all ~7,000 products with department and subdepartment hierarchies preserved through a custom tagging and collection strategy. For products where colors weren’t suited as Shopify variants, the team implemented a tag-based color architecture—keeping the browsing and filtering experience intact without inflating variant counts.
Smart Product Display Logic
Custom PDP logic ensures the storefront only surfaces what’s actually available. If all sizes for a color are out of stock, that color is hidden. On collection pages, single-color products suppress the swatch entirely. Small details, but they keep the shopping experience clean.
Jersey Customization
MTN Haus integrated OPTIS to power name and number personalization across club and federation jerseys. Player variants are managed per team, so customers can select a specific player or enter a custom name—a non-negotiable for soccer retail.
Refreshed Storefront
The new storefront was built on a custom Shopify theme with minimal development customizations. The design reflects the Unisport Soccer identity while keeping the theme maintainable and easy for the client team to extend over time.
The Results:
On Time, On Brand, Operationally Independent
The migration launched on schedule with minimal customer-facing disruption. But the more meaningful shift is in how the Unisport team operates day to day:
- Marketing and merchandising teams move independently—updating collections, promotions, and pages without waiting on engineering
- Engineering time shifts from maintenance and content support to strategic feature work
- Faster campaign execution—new product launches and seasonal promotions no longer bottleneck on deploy cycles
- Low post-launch contact volume—customers transitioned smoothly, with minimal support disruption
- The platform no longer depends on a small group of people who understood the old system—anyone on the team can contribute
With over 60 years of combined heritage between WeGotSoccer and Unisport, and a global community of millions, Unisport Soccer now has a platform that matches the ambition—and a team that can operate it without waiting on engineering.
